The annual NRIPS Symposium took place on 13 June at the University of Greenwich’s Medway campus, gathering students and staff for an afternoon of discussion and exchange under the theme ‘Interconnected futures: integrating science, society, and sustainability.’ The event celebrated the breadth of research undertaken at that Natural Resources Institute (NRI), spanning agriculture, health, social science and sustainability. Kainat Bibi, NRIPS President and PhD student, opened the symposium alongside NRI Director Professor Sheryl Hendricks, setting the tone for a dynamic programme of talks and presentations.

The keynote address was delivered by Professor Jeremy Hagger, who drew on his experience in Costa Rica to explore how environmental sustainability can be successfully integrated with human well-being. The symposium also highlighted the progression of PhD research across different stages. First-year students introduced their projects through a series of turbo talks, while second-year students presented posters showcasing their ongoing work. Third-year researchers shared key findings and reflections in 10-minute presentations, offering a glimpse into the potential real-world impact of their research.

The event reflected the collaborative and interdisciplinary spirit of NRIPS, providing a platform for critical dialogue and community building among the next generation of researchers.
