The recent BBC article “Ratmageddon: Why rats are overrunning our cities” examines how climate change, waste pressure and urban density are fueling rat population booms. The piece spotlights the role of overflowing bins, warmer winters and changing human behaviours.

Our own Professor Steven Belmain is quoted offering insight on rat behaviour — noting in particular that rats are “neophobic” (fearful of new things), which can shape how they respond to control measures.
