Gillian is the in-house focal point for NRI's communication outreach work relating to its research, training and development projects and programmes. She has extensive communications experience in an international development setting.
Gillian’s communications work involves sourcing, writing and publishing news items on research and development, writing and disseminating newsletters, planning strategic communications, liaising with national and international press, coordinating project communications, writing and editing applications for academic prizes and project bids, educational marketing and advertising, social media, elaborating and conducting video and audio interviews with farmers in the field and researchers at international research meetings, conferences, workshops and events, and facilitating meetings. She also advises staff on media and communications, coaches researchers on oral presentation skills, and organises and films the NRI seminar series and lecture programmes.
Gillian has extensive experience in proofreading, editing and designing project reports, proposals, and dissemination materials, and in designing communication products, working together with design, web and marketing teams to create new project logos, websites and materials. She has direct experience in undertaking these tasks for publications linked with a number of high-profile funders and organisations including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the CGIAR, the European Commission, the United Nations and Sida.
Her previous experience includes international relations, translation and teaching in Spain, Portugal, and long-term experience in Mexico. She is bilingual English–Spanish.
