The Natural Resources Institute (NRI) (www.nri.org) is an internationally renowned multi-disciplinary centre of the University of Greenwich that undertakes research, consultancy and training to support sustainable development, food security, economic growth and poverty reduction in developing countries.
NRI is expanding its work supporting small and medium agricultural and food businesses in the developing world to successfully adopt new technologies. For this post, you will be working mainly initially on enterprise development concerning tropical root and tuber crops (specifically yams and cassava), which is an area of work in which the Institute is internationally recognised. NRI wants to increase the impact of this work on developing economies by supporting innovative business models. You will join the Food and Markets Department, which has a well established group working on value chain development. The role involves research and support to development partners, analysis of business cases, consultancy and capacity building. It will be necessary to work both as part of project teams with colleagues and external partners and independently.
You will have a degree or advanced qualification in business studies, economics, marketing or related subject, proven experience in private sector development in the agricultural and food sectors, some of which will have been gained in a developing country context.
The post is open ended with a review clause and will involve short-term overseas travel.
