Assessing impact on poverty and livelihoods

Focusing on some of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable countries and regions, we have worked with government, international agencies and NGOs to increase the impact on poverty of policies and programmes in agriculture and natural resources.  Our contributions have included: the analysis of complex current livelihood patterns; advice on the development of alternatives; and the monitoring and impact assessment of research and development programmes.

Examples of our impact assessment activities include:

•    livelihood analysis in Afghanistan;

•    assessment of the social impact of codes of practice in the South African wine and Kenyan cut-flower industries;

•    advice on impact assessment in the inception phase of the Sub-Saharan Africa Challenge Programme; and

•    an assessment of the livelihood impacts of humanitarian removal of land mines in Yemen.
