Catching tsetse

What other types of fly are caught by tsetse traps?

Tsetse traps also catch large numbers of:-

  • Stable flies
  • Horse flies
  • Non-biting muscids

These are all pests of livestock. Some of them transmit diseases - Stomoxys transmits gall sickness for instance - and all of them are nuisance pests. However, traps and targets do not kill these species in sufficient numbers to have a significant effect on their numbers.
