AGRINATURA is an association of over thirty-five European universities and research organisations involved in agricultural research, education, training and capacity-strengthening for development. With its broad representation and wide-ranging expertise, AGRINATURA is the major institutional voice in Europe for agricultural research and education for development.
Member organisations are committed to contributing to the Millennium Development Goals and seek to do this by:
- conducting policy advocacy for agricultural research and education for development in Europe and worldwide;
- developing and strengthening strategic alliances and partnerships with and between different stakeholders in development, both in the North and the South;
- encouraging networking and partnerships between institutions, organisations and individuals;
- organising, facilitating and implementing joint participation in European and international programmes and projects.
AGRINATURA has a European Economic Interest Grouping (AGRINATURA-EEIG) as its operational arm. Current initiatives include:
- monitoring and evaluation of research projects funded by the European Commission and implemented by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research CGIAR;
- participation in an initiative that aims to strengthen research partnerships between Europe and Africa, the Platform for African-European Partnerships on Agricultural Research for Development (PAEPARD);
- working with the International Federation of Agricultural Producers (IFAP) to help smallholder farmers get better access to markets;
- in collaboration with developing-country partners, identifying and testing promising tools which help smallholder farmers to manage more effectively the various risks that they face.
