Research at NRI - Processes and Institutions in Agricultural Innovation

This theme has grown from NRI's longstanding and pioneering interest in participatory and interdisciplinary methodologies for agricultural research. Later this interest developed to focus on the ways such methodologies could be used and institutionalized within agricultural research organizations, while also encompassing related topics such as Indigenous Technical Knowledge and farmer experimentation.

We continue to work on these sub-themes, applying the approaches to other fields within natural resources research, such as soil fertility and livestock production. These interests have converged with others, such as the macro-economic determinants of agricultural change, the development of partnerships between widely differing stakeholders in research, performance assessment within agricultural research institutions, and the role of NGOs and the private sector within agricultural research and extension.
