PLANTS DATABASE

PLANTS DATABASE - still under construction

Several information sources on plants, their taxonomy, distribution, and recorded uses can be found through several existing databases available on the internet. Two databases that focus on plants of particular importantance to southern Africa and the SAPP project are managed by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The Flora Zambesiaca database provides mainly taxonomic and distribution information, while the SEPASAL database of semi-arid plants provides ecological, geographical and conservation information as well as documented uses. Kew has combined their many databases under a single search engine called the Electronic Plant Information Centre. The ICRAF Agro-forestTree database also contains relevant information. The list below is a subset of pesticidal plants that have been noted through farmer surveys carried out as part of the SAPP project in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. Further details about each plant can be found by clicking on the highlighted Latin names of the plant species listed.
