John Kamanula presented work on the use of Cymbopogon nardus as a stored product protectant at the CHEMRAWN meeting in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

19-23 November 2007
1st annual project meeting. Project partners met to present progress on activities and to discuss plans for future work. The meeting was followed by a workshop at which experimental procedures for studying the effects of plants on field and storage insects pests were demonstrated. <Minutes of the annual meeting>.

Presentation by Dr Phil Stevenson at Kew-Kings-Square Phytochemical meeting in London UK. An overview of the uses of pesticidal plants in Sub-Saharan Africa was presented to this triennial meeting of UK based phytochemists from Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Kings College, University of London, the London School of Pharmacy and University of East London. The presentation focused on Securidaca longepedunculata with reference to how knowledge of the plant’s chemistry enables optimization of use. (see Jayasekara et al. 2002, 2003 & 2005).

Stephen Nyirenda, John Kamanula and Phil Stevenson met the Honourable Deputy Minister of Agriculture Mr Binton Kuntsaira at a world food day commemoration to discuss work of the Department of Agricultural Research Services (DARS) and Mzuzu University including the work of SAPP.
