Many of NRI's research and consultancy activities have a strong capacity development dimension. The Institute works with partner institutions to develop solutions to specific problems but also contributes to addressing wider institutional issues. In this context, NRI's work on areas such as participatory processes, research systems and approaches, and knowledge management and communication aims to strengthen the overall research process and to enhance the impact of research outputs. The Institute's expertise in performance and impact assessment is also used to develop the capacity of institutions to work more effectively and to increase the impact orientation of their activities. NRI is also actively engaged in helping institutions in developing countries to address emerging challenges such as climate change.
