NRI has had close links with the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) since it was established. The Institute is currently leading an ECART team providing impact assessment services to the sub-Saharan Africa Challenge Programme led by FARA. NRI also has a close working relationship with the sub-Regional Organisations in sub-Saharan Africa. Links with CORAF-WECARD cover issues such as biosafety, rice research and regional trade. NRI has collaborated with several of the ASARECA networks and a senior staff member chairs a standing panel that provides oversight of European Union support to ASARECA. An NRI scientist has been working with SADC-FANR to help develop the strategy for the SADC Multi-Country Agricultural Productivity Programme. NRI researchers are working with NARS partners to help strengthen capacity through SADC’s new Implementation and Coordination of Agricultural Research and Training (ICART) Programme. These linkages are further strengthened by the close association NRI has had over many years with institutions in the National Agricultural Research Systems in Africa.
Two examples of NRI’s contribution to SADC’s ICART programme are:
- Development of Ecologically-based rodent management for the Southern African Region (ECORAT). [pdf 77Kb]
- Southern African Pesticidal Plants (SAPP). [pdf 84Kb]
