The Global Post-harvest Forum

NRI is a member of PhAction - The Global Post-harvest Forum - which is a policy and action forum for post-production aspects of international development. The twelve member organizations (international agricultural research institutes, national and multinational donors, and development agencies) subscribe to the vision that a dynamic and integrated post-harvest sector makes a major contribution to livelihoods, food security and sustainable development.

Following liberalization, many poor farmers are no longer effectively functioning in their local or national markets, and have reverted to subsistence food production. In this situation, they are unlikely to have the ability, opportunity or motivation to make post-harvest improvements. Recognizing that this has become a key post-production constraint to livelihood development, PhAction has launched an action plan - 'Linking Farmers to Markets' - with four priorities:
