Professor of Development Anthropology, and Head of the Livelihoods and Institutions Department. 30 years experience in applied social research and consultancy for rural development including livestock and pastoralist development, and impacts of climate change on the rural poor. Coordinating Lead Author on Rural Areas for the forthcoming Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Field experience in numerous African countries (especially in the Horn of Africa), South Asia and Mongolia. Fluent in French, with some Arabic.
